Modelling climates across Earth, planets, and exoplanets.

I am Joao Mendonca, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton. I develop physically based, high-performance climate models to understand atmospheric circulation, climate evolution, and observable signatures across Earth, Solar System planets, and exoplanets.

Research themes

Atmospheric dynamicsHow circulation transports heat, momentum, and chemical species.
Climate evolutionWhy planetary climates diverge—and what controls their stability.
Worlds from dataConnecting physical models to remote observations of atmospheres.
